AccuExam – OPD Scan-III

OPDSCANIIIAs promised, an in depth look at all the amazing instruments involved in Digital Eye Exam.  Today we will spotlight the Marco OPD Scan-III.   The OPD Scan-III is five instruments in one.  Our doctors are very excited that this instrument generates an abundant amount of accurate data about the eye.  Ultimately, this data will improve the patient experience.  Here is how:

Accuracy:  This digital instrument can precisely pinpoint your customized vision prescription for clearer, sharper vision for both day and night.  We begin the exam with this instrument as it gives the doctor a baseline prescription which can reduce the “which is better 1 or 2” choices of a traditional exam.

Day and night vision:  For those patients who complain of problems with night vision or night driving, two prescriptions may be beneficial. One prescription for day vision and one for night vision.  Due to this new technology, our doctors now have the capability to evaluate the need for an alternate prescription and with the help of the other digital eye exam components, can now formulate an accurate night vision prescription.

5 Instruments in 1

Wavefront aberrometer – assessment of visual acuity and quality of vision.  This measures how clean the light comes in and out of the pupil.  The cleaner the pathway, the more likely the eyes can be corrected to 20/20 vision.  In the event that a patient is not fully correctable to 20/20 vision, our doctors now have tools and data to educate the patient why they are not fully correctable.

Topographer – maps the outside surface of the eye (cornea).  Everyone’s eyes are unique.  This measurement gives us a fingerprint of the surface of the eye.  Like the wavefront aberrometer, this tells us how light is passing through the eye.  The images are reviewed by the doctor and compared each year to ensure the eyes are healthy.

Auto-refractometer – exceptionally accurate reading of prescriptions in day and night conditions.

Auto-keratometer – an instrument for measuring the curvature of the surface of the cornea.  This data is commonly used in the fitting of contact lenses and the monitoring of corneal changes.

Pupillometer -measures pupil diameters in the day and night.
